Stapp Residence
This small waterfront property on the border between Seattle and Lake forest Park was originally a small single story vacation cabin. A two story bedroom addition caused the house to appear out of balance, and the low ceilings of the one-story area caused the views across the lake to be cut off. Exterior trim and siding were part of the solution to combine the one story and two story parts into a unified building.
I reconstructed the cabin portion to the maximum height allowed by codes and created an open plan with kitchen, dining, living room and office and upstairs Master Bedroom- all with view of the water. In addition, I designed the fences, the structure of the garden, reconstructed the dock and deck and bought the furniture.
The transformation was complete. We added only 12 SF to the 1500 SF home plus a south facing deck over the old carport area, but got a very different space with three bedrooms and 3 baths. It was an exercise in making a small space seem big.
