Grether Residence
The beautiful site is in the heart of the Medina waterfront. I was originally asked to help give some shape to the roof and street appeal to the existing home, but it soon became clear that more drastic measures were needed. The home was damaged by earthquake, its views were blocked by a large chimney and there was poor balance between the one-story and two story portion of the house.
We came to the conclusion that the house should be completely re-constructed, and we applied for and got two separate variances to re-construct the home. The new home has 5 large bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and is build upon twenty 30 foot concrete piles and a slab with
infloor heating. Per variance, we were required to use the existing footprint while allowed to add more second story space. An additional 2-car garage was also added and we reconstructed the dock to a more curved shape to emphasize the little bay.
